“The Spatial Mirror” elective course at the Faculty of Architecture, KU Leuven is an action based design and research atelier. In this small studio, students of all sorts –including master students, an alumna, an everlasting (doctoral) student and an experienced master in studying (supervisor)- explore the different roles they can take on as an architect in the creation of enlivened (Leitner, 2015) urban space. Through debate / experiment / exchange / co-production / participation / commoning / 1:1 construction / performance / actions / caring etc. the students explore the potentialities of a “Commonplace Architecture”. In this practice students stand in relation to locals that are exploring (as autodidactic students) the creation of urban commons.
